Must Have Books!

Just One More Book

Our friend Christina over at Wonder Years Radio - a podcast for parents of kids in elementary school (not focused on homeschooling but a very good show) turned us on to another podcast called Just One More book.  Three times a week these folks review children's book in a very casual way.  Take a listen.

Our disclaimer - We have not listened to all the podcasts nor would we recommend all the books that they recommend.

Books are the cornerstone to every homeschool.  You can pick or choose any curriculum you want but without some great books, you'll be lost.  Check out some of the recommendations we make for your family homeschool library.  It's not extensive but it's a good start.

Make sure you become very best friends with your local librarians.  Bring them flowers, take them to lunch and visit them often with a smile on your face.  A relaxed homeschooler loves the library and uses the services to the hilt - and librarians will love you because you'll see their value and use their skills!

From the moment your children are conceived you should start reading to them as part of your homeschool routine.  They'll learn to love learning and books and become readers themselves if you read TO them regularly.  But don't just read anything - read books worth reading.  Books that live. Books that tell of history.  Books that are rich with language and story.

Preschool Books

  • Can't You Sleep Little Bear
  • Goodnight Moon
  • The Bible in Pictures for Little Eyes
  • The Foot Book

Elementary Age Books

  • The Little House Books
  • The Prairie Primer

Middle School Books

Junior High Books

High School Books

General Homeschool Books

Here is a good list of books that you should have as source books for your homeschooling journey.  They'll serve you well throughout the many years of homeschooling and you'll find yourself pulling them out regularly to check out information and more.  Although you could borrow these from the library, it would be better to keep them on hand!

Enjoy!
