Homeschooling will also allow parents to customize their children’s curriculum to suit the individual needs of each child, rather than studying subjects that may be boring or of little interest. No more studying subjects that may be dull or of little interest to the individual student. Each child has the freedom to pursue subjects that excite and thrill them. Just think about a budding entrepreneur. In the context of home, a young entrepreneur can have his school curriculum tailored to his interest. Let’s say it is in setting up an online business venture. Each of the child’s subjects can be tailor made just for him, as he seeks to get his business up and running.
Or what about that bright young child who has learned things easily from toddlerhood? Again, this is a perfect reason to continue homeschooling this particular child, who needs extra work, extra exploration in many different subjects to keep his active mind busy. There is no pre-made curriculum that will meet the need of such a child. They almost need two different sets of curriculum to satisfy that love of learning and studying. These children need lots of conversation, lots of new books, magazines, many different avenues to write. Even dictionaries and encyclopedias keep their busy brains occupied. These are the students that would benefit from having the pace at which they move through their curriculum accelerated. They are also the ones that could start college courses online sooner.
The Internet also has many different online tools and reading resources that would be advantageous to studious children. Not to mention the whole homeschooling family.
Negative influences are another reason to homeschool. Parents desire to protect what they have worked hard to instill in their children. Peers have less influence, when parents are directly involved in a child’s social life. When children are taught how to resist negative and damaging influences, under the guidance of their parents, the parents are ultimately teaching them how to stand on their own.
There are just so many positive things that come from homeschooling through the high school years. However, none of these ideas is a formula of how to raise a strong person. Parents also need to guard and keep the hearts of their young people so that they are turned toward them. It is a lot of hard work and sacrifice, but worth it in the end to establish strong relationships with our children. That is something that is of lasting value.
